Why another project to collect Network information?

One of this project goals is to extract and store information in a format
that can be used by other projects and applications. I said to myself if I
had a tool to discover my network switches. I could feed that list to a script
that could create Nagios or MRTG statements.

Why XML?

There are several reasons, first it can be transformed to other formats
like HTML, it is still text based, and allows for some very interesting data
structures.
